While growing up she attended an all girl school, and credits a music teacher from there for encouraging her to pursue her dreams. By 18 years old, she moved to London so she could pursue her career. She released her debut single in 2009, and also released her debut album the following year through Neon Gold Records. In 2010, a month after releasing her album, she signed a deal with Chop Shop Records through Atlantic Records, therefore establishing her as an international success.
