His first shot at fame was while he was attending Las Vegas Academy when he joined an r&b group called Envy. When the band separated in 2000, he continued to write songs for other artists. He also began pursuing a solo career. After performing for music execs at Def Jam, Jay Z signed him to a deal. Finally in 2006, he released his debut album In My Own Words. Now he’s one of the most successful singers and songwriters of all time.
