Black Star is an American rap duo based out of Brooklyn, New York that formed in 1997. The rap duo is comprised of rappers Mos Def and Talib Kweli. They first broke out in the underground scene in the late 90’s becoming pioneers of alternative rap. As a duo they released numerous singles throughout the years, and only one album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star in 1998. The music they released together have become classic in the hip hop community. Since coming on to the scene, both rappers have gone on to enjoy very successful solo careers. But they can also still be seen collaborating on different projects together to this day.
